Protein : GMEB1

Name GMEB1
Description glucocorticoid modulatory element binding protein 1
Owner Public
URN urn:agi-llid:10691
Connectivity 5
Notes This gene is a member of KDWK gene family. The product of this gene associates with GMEB2 protein, and the complex is essential for parvovirus DNA replication. Study of rat homolog implicates the role of this gene in modulation of transactivation by the glucocorticoid receptor bound to glucocorticoid response elements. Two alternative spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist. 1.55 A resolution crystal structure of a central portion of GMEB1, encompassing its SAND domain. GMEB1 is capable of binding to the prodomain of caspase-2; findings indicated that GMEB1 might be an endogenous inhibitory protein that selectively interacts with prodomain of caspase-2 to disrupt the autoactivation. Consensus DNA recognition motif for two KDWK transcription factors identifies flexible-length, CpG-methylation sensitive cognate binding sites in the majority of human promoters.
