Notes	FABP6 encodes the ileal fatty acid binding protein. Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABP6 and FABP1 (the liver fatty acid binding protein) are also able to bind bile acids. It is thought that FABPs roles include fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. In keeping with its role in the enterohepatic circulation and ileal reabsorption of bile acids, the gene promoter contains consensus elements for CDX2 and FXR. More than one transcription start site has been identified. NMR structure of human ileal lipid-binding protein-cholyltaurine complex and its comparison with homologous structures. The I-BABP gene may be a novel target for PPAR in humans.
